About Miss Knitwear
Established in 2013 and born out of a passion for design, the Miss Knitwear mohair collection combines the best of old world mohair with the luxurious softness of high quality knitwear.
Mohair is the fleece of the Angora goat, and it’s one of the world’s most beautiful sustainable natural fibres.
This luxurious mohair collection is designed by Cape Town based designer, Candice Johnson. Candice was born and raised in the Eastern Cape and having a love for the earth and the country she is from, she was naturally drawn to creating authentic knitwear that is sourced from locally produced raw materials.
Candice uses the finest pure kid mohair and delicately soft ostrich feathers produced on sustainable farms with ethical farming practices.
Each style is knitted in local factories and finished by hand in Candice’s studio.
Sourced from the unforgiving and arid landscape of the Karoo, this collection is symbolic of finding beauty and comfort in the world and luxuriously knitting it into a range that showcases the very best of the Karoo, characterised by quality, softness and elegance.
A celebration of femininity, dreams and romance, the Miss Knitwear range is a unique and authentic collection which offers women a nostalgic throwback to the golden age of mohair and ostrich feather production with an ingenious modern twist.
Miss Knitwear celebrates the wonder of Mother Nature and commits wholeheartedly to sustainability.
South Africa is the biggest global producer of mohair, producing 50% of the world’s mohair. Most of South Africa’s Angora goats are farmed in the Karoo area of the Eastern Cape.
Angora goats thrive in the Karoo, with its combination of hot, dry summers, cold winters and semi-desert vegetation. In the pursuit of perfection, their fleece has been refined through consistently high breeding standards and meticulous genetic selection. Angora goats are shorn twice a year and are not harmed in any way during the process.
This combination of best practice farming and the best environment for Angora goats sets South Africa apart from other mohair-producing countries and produces one of the finest natural fibres globally.
The added beauty of mohair is that it is a natural, renewable resource, providing a sustainable production chain between animal and human while contributing to the long-term prosperity of the Karoo region.
